چکیده

We present a theory for the nonequilibrium current in a mesoscopic Josephson junction which is coupled to a normal electron reservoir, and apply it to a chaotic junction. Large sample-to-sample fluctuations of the critical current Ic are found, with rms Ic.ANeD/\ , when the voltage difference eV between the electron reservoir and the junction exceeds the superconducting gap D and the number of modes N connecting the junction to the superconducting electrodes is large.

Controlling Josephson transport by manipulation of Andreev levels in ballistic mesoscopic junctions

We discuss how to control dc Josephson current by influencing the structure and nonequilibrium population of Andreev levels via external electrostatic gates, current injection and electromagnetic radiation. In particular we will consider the ”giant” Josephson critical current in ”long” SIS tunnel junctions and the regular and anomalous nonequilibrium Josepson currents in three terminal SNS junc...

Mesoscopic Josephson Effect

In the classical Josephson effect the phase difference across the junction is well defined, and the supercurrent is reduced only weakly by phase diffusion. For mesoscopic junctions with small capacitance the phase undergoes large quantum fluctuations, and the current is also decreased by Coulomb blockade effects. We discuss the behavior of the current-voltage characteristics in a large range of...

Three “universal” mesoscopic Josephson effects

A recent theory is reviewed for the sample-to-sample fluctuations in the critical current of a Josephson junction consisting of a disordered point contact or microbridge. The theory is based on a relation between the supercurrent and the scattering matrix in the normal state. The root-mean-square amplitude rms Ic of the critical current Ic at zero temperature is given by rms Ic ≃ e∆0/h̄, up to a...

Theory of Enhanced Interlayer Tunneling in Optically Driven High-T_{c} Superconductors.

Motivated by recent pump-probe experiments indicating enhanced coherent c-axis transport in underdoped YBCO, we study Josephson junctions periodically driven by optical pulses. We propose a mechanism for this observation by demonstrating that a parametrically driven Josephson junction shows an enhanced imaginary part of the low-frequency conductivity when the driving frequency is above the plas...
